A tournament server, unrestricted participation, and €500 to win – that's what's on the menu for Inglorium, the next competition brought to you by Krosmoz Tournaments Arena!

KTA is livening up PvP players' days with numerous tournaments organized in seasons and different level leagues, as we announced a few weeks ago in this article. In the middle of the first season of 2019, KTA is planning a major event for you: Inglorium, a huge tournament open to all with €500 to win in cash prizes!

Format

Inglorium will be held on a tournament server offering all classes in the game at level 200, and all equipment level 160 and higher. The tournament will consist of initial qualifying phases followed by eliminating final phases.

For the qualifiers, the teams will be put into 4 same-size groups by random drawing. Six Swiss-style rounds will be played in each group to qualify 16 teams in each group for the rest of the tournament.

The finals phases, therefore, start with the round of 64. Starting with the round of 16, faceoffs will be played in two winning matches (BO3), so you'll have to be valiant to make it far in the tournament!

All matches in the tournament will be played after a preliminary draft phase to determine the composition of teams A and B. As a reminder, the draft phase happens as follows:

  • A bans a class
  • B bans a class
  • A picks a class
  • B picks a class
  • B bans a class
  • A bans a class
  • B picks a class
  • A picks a class
  • A bans a class
  • B bans a class
  • A picks a class
  • B picks a class

Once a class has been banned, neither of the two teams can pick it or ban it again. Once a class has been chosen by one of the two teams, the other can no longer ban or pick it.

Dates

Don't waste any time: Registration is already open, and will end on Sunday 04/07 at 11:59 p.m. (Paris time)!

Qualifying Matches:
  • Wednesday 04/10: 2 rounds
  • Friday 04/12: 2 rounds
  • Sunday 04/14: 2 rounds
Final Phases:
  • Wednesday 04/17: Rounds of 64 and 32
  • Friday 04/19: Round of 16
  • Sunday 04/21: Quarter-Finals
  • Tuesday 04/23: Semi-Finals
  • Thursday 04/25: Finals

The matches are held in the evening. There will be 30 minutes between the end of the draft (which lasts approximately 10 minutes) and the start of the match. The first draft will always start at 8 p.m. (Paris time), and the second at 10 p.m. (Paris time).

How to Enter

There are no conditions to be able to participate. Inglorium is opening its doors to everyone, no matter what your server, level or class!

The tournament is entirely organized on the Krosmoz Tournaments Arena website. If you aren't yet a KTA member, you can follow this guide to join.

Head to the tournament page for all the details and the registration link! Once registered, you'll receive access to the tournament server via the KTA website.

Prizes

As announced above, there will be €500 for the winners of Inglorium to take home!

In addition, there are points to be won for the KTA season rankings. Remember, the top 16 teams in the rankings at the end of the season will face off in a final tournament with €3,000 in cash prizes!

That's right! Inglorium is a major event for all you PvP lovers out there!

The Case of the Grimacing King

$

They're back to right wrongs, save the world from devastation, convince everyone that their version is right, and uncover the truth. Nothing can stop them. Nada and Fax – more revealing than hottest tell-all in print – are here to save us all from… temporal anomalies!

Fax's deformed reflection grimaced in a magnifying mirror. He was inspecting his teeth closely.

"You're sure I don't haf anyfing in my teef?"

Behind the desk, Nada Skelet didn't look up from the file she was studying.

"Absolutely sure, Mystheur…"

The Xelor pushed aside the mirror suspended from the ceiling by a metal arm. Then he ran his tongue over his front teeth.

"I love sunflower seeds, but they get stuck everywhere… (getting back to their case) So, what do you think? (changing the subject again) I wonder where Renniks gets these. The ones I get at the market are no where near as crunchy…"

"What a scumbag!"

"Who? Renniks? He's not that bad… (after some thought) Well, he does sometimes get on my nerves and I want to say, 'Yo, dude, get off my bandages! You want more proof? Fine. But stop throwing out all the proof I get you!' But it's always 'The jury'll never believe that, Mystheur,' 'Clean your glasses, Mystheur,' or 'The eye witness is blind, Mystheur,' with him. You won't get me to do better by tearing me down…"

"I was talking about Leorictus."

"… Just the opposite, fool!"

"I was talking about Leorictus!" said Nada again louder.

(Long pause) "… Oh!"

The young Xelor studied the file that the brilliant Sram handed him.

First Name: Leorictus

Last Name: Sheram Sharm

Class: Unknown

Profession: King of Bonta

Identifying Characteristics: Went crazy.

Key Dates:

  • Leorictus was crowned in 538.
  • In 551 and 552, the King of Bonta watched the events leading to the Frigost big freeze from a distance.
  • In 554, Djaul attacked Bonta but encountered unexpected resistance. The White City launched a counterattack. Brakmar was defeated. Leorictus killed the Prince of the Dark City and seized his crown.
  • In 555, the King of Bonta seemed to lose his mind gradually for no discernible reason. From this point on, he became known as "the Grimacing King".
  • In 564, the people revolted and the Protectors abandoned Bonta.
  • In 567, King Leorictus was overthrown and died when he threw himself off the palace walls. This marked the beginning of the persecution of the Huppermages, who had supported the king to the end.

"Hmmm… The dates look right, but they left out all the documented frankly bizarre affairs. And it's a bit dry… Who wrote this?"

"Renniks. He dropped it off this morning."

"It's very good!" Mystheur corrected himself immediately. "Hmm… But I think I should fill in the gaps. As you can see, he wasn't always a… 'scumbag'. He became one. And when was that?"

"I'd say everything went to… (she made air quotes) 'sunflower seed' when he seized the Prince of Brakmar's crown," stated Nada firmly.

"Exactly! And you've got a way with euphemisms."

"Thanks. When he added the black crown to the white one, his subconscious overloaded, submerged by the weight of the responsibilities of two nations on one man – even though in practice he only governed Bonta…"

"No, I…"

"In denial, he fell into the grips of a syndrome that psychologists call 'Burg Nout', in reference to that tiny burg that remained isolated too long and forced its inhabitants to work incessantly…"

"Nada, I…"

"… So much so that they couldn't see that they were caught in a vicious circle. The ones who didn't die from stress and exhaustion simply went insane! Nowadays, of course, we know that you just need to turn in a circle seven times and lie down until the feeling passes – once a day for seven weeks – until the effects of Burg Nout go away… It's so simple!"

"Well, yes, but… not at all!" replied Fax, who was already sweating at the idea of contradicting his colleague, who was for once very interested in a file. "Hmm… Keep an open mind, okay?"

"I always do. Up to a point. As long as it's not something out of la-la-loo-loo land."

"'La-la-loo-loo land'… Really?… Okay, let's get back to Leorictus's insanity… (deep breath) I believe that the Prince of Brakmar's crown was cursed by Erzal, a necromancer who was in Prince Djamal's inner circle at the time. Erzal, by the way, was hunted down, found and then assassinated by Ilyzaelle on Leorictus's orders shortly after his victory over Brakmar! The insanity emerged one year after the good king came into possession of the crown. That's characteristic of 'delayed-reaction' enchantments that put distance between the enchanter and the enchantee by creating a time lag between the events."

Fax paused so she could digest this opening. Agent Skelet didn't react. Out of pure politeness, he knew. What he was saying fit the "la-la-loo-loo land" category to a T.

"Leorictus was cursed and became the Grimacing King. He died and everything could have stopped there."

"That's usually what happens when you die. It's… over."

"I'm sensing a hint of skepticism," teased Fax.

"I'm listening, Mystheur. Surprise me… again."

"These events happened nearly 100 years ago. And I think the Grimacing King has more grimaces in store for us… One of them has to do with the Ivory Dofus that disappeared at that time. It was found many years later in Externam. No one knows how it got there! Well, I have a theory about that. I think that Leorictus was connected to Dardondakal and his egg, and that when he died, the Grimacing King took the Ivory Dofus with him on his last voyage to lay it on the banks of Externam!"

Leorictus in the Dofus novel – Volume 5: Of ashes and ivory
Nada got up and walked to the middle of the Office of Frankly Bizarre Affairs. Silently, she turned in a circle seven times and then laid down on the ground. At that very moment, someone knocked on the door and Agent Renniks came in. He stepped over the Sram without even blinking.

"Agent Mystheur, did Agent Skelet give you the file I gave her this morning?"

"Oh, Agent Renniks! I was just telling Nada that I love the sunflower seeds you get for the FBA office! Yes, I got the Grimacing King file. Brilliantly written! Have you ever thought of writing novels?"

"Mystheur, I sent you the file because it seems connected to the file YOU sent me last week…"

"File? Which file? There are so many of them, you know…"

"The case of the Butcher of Brakmar and the case of the Grimacing King are connected somehow, Mystheur. There's no doubt about it… I just need proof!"

The Zaap network will start to malfunction as a result of your actions in the World of Twelve. Kolossium scores will be reset for this 3rd season.

While there was some uncertainty on Friday, we can put those doubts to rest: the 2.51 DOFUS Update “Eliocalypse: Resonance” will be available for all players as of tomorrow.
The first anomalies will appear sometime after all adventures have settled back into their day-to-day routine (probably after a few days, depending on players’ activity in the different zones).

All details will be available tomorrow in the changelog.

And last, but certainly not least, Fleaster Island will be available starting Tuesday, 16th of April!

The Update "Eliocalypse: Resonance" Is Online

Zaaps going wild, unexpected creatures and characters coming out of them… A new era is about to begin. Will you be there?

A shroud of mystery is taking hold of the World of Twelve, and the fabric of spacetime – called the Continuum – is in danger of tearing itself apart. Will you rise to this new challenge? Will you get to the source of the temporal anomalies in an attempt to save the World of Twelve?

What's in Update 2.51

The Makings of the Eliocalypse

Hunt down the temporal anomalies and face the monsters in the suspicious sub-areas – what you and other players do will trigger the opening of the Zaaps into… the unknown!

Rare Loot

You asked for them, and they're back! Three new items to collect straight from monsters, inspired by the "Aquatic" theme, are arriving in this update.

Kolossium Season 3

A reset of the ratings will inaugurate this new season, which looks full of promise.

Fleaster Island

Nope! It wasn't an Aperirel fool's joke! Fleaster is entitled to his island, and very soon, it'll reveal itself as a chocolate surprise egg. To explore it until the very last bite, however, you'll have to wait until mid-April, after having encountered the temporal anomalies… All in good time!

The Legendary Pets

Your little companions are evolving! You can now grant your pets a legendary power once they reach their maximum level and after completing a series of objectives.
Unlike what the in game text says, the legendary power won't be available for the moment for non-evolutive pets and petsmounts (for example: Karmeleon), nor for breeded mounts. However, it is expected that these powers will be available later, although we have no date to announce.

Special Pack

The Eliocalypse is beginning… Lay low! Okay, but… where?

Until Sunday, April 14 (11:59 p.m. Paris time), in the store, the special pack released with this update offers you one month of subscription, 6,000 OG, and a temporal haven bag – the ideal hiding place in the event of a cataclysm!

The Case of "the Unearthed"

In the World of Twelve, frankly bizarre affairs happen every day… and no one bats an eye! No one? Not quite! Nada Skelet and Fax Mystheur identify such cases, study them, and even try to solve them. Often, the truth is out there, but with the temporal anomalies, the real question isn't where but… when?

Renniks had assigned Mystheur and Skelet to the case of the Grimacing King a week ago now. He'd also given them the green light to dig further into the Butcher of Brakmar case that they'd started investigating on their own. As far as the head of the Office of Frankly Bizarre Affairs was concerned, the two cases were connected. In one, there was a Masqueraider who'd seen a vision of Julith near the Brakmar Zaap; in the other, Renniks had been contacted by an Osamodas who'd been horrified by his reflection in the Bonta Zaap – instead of his own face, he'd seen an evil being staring back at him with a horrible grimace. After a professional sketch artist had completed the portrait, it turned out that the demonic face looked exactly like Leorictus Sheran Sharm, better known by his nickname "the Grimacing King".

At this point, it was obvious to both investigators that everything pointed to the Zaaps. What exactly was going on? Were they out of whack? Had someone hijacked them or… had these temporal anomalies always been part of their workings? Was there some sort of Fleaster egg in the Zaaps?

Mystheur and Skelet hadn't had time to find a clear answer to these questions – something else had come up…

Amakna

Edge of the Evil Forest

8:00 a.m.

A few kameters from a Zaap, Agent Skelet was examining a hole surrounded by piles of dark dirt. She was holding a notebook and pencil, and wearing glasses that telescoped out in a succession of round lenses, from largest to smallest. There was a button on the side of the glasses. Each time it was pressed, a thin metal arm holding a magnifying glass rose up to adjust the focus. After a few minutes, Nada spoke:

"I can't see squat, Mystheur."

The Xelor was standing behind her looking elsewhere. He had been sure she was going to say that. He bit down on a sunflower seed with his molars, took it out of his mouth, removed the shell, and ate the seed.

"I was sure you were going to say that…" said Fax before dipping into the pouch hanging from his belt.

"That's not what I mean, Mystheur," she corrected, removing the glasses. "I'm talking about your thingies here – I can't see anything with them on! But without them… I noticed a lot!"

"Oh…" said the special agent, tossing a sunflower seed into his mouth. "Go on then, tell me!"

"First off, there's a hand print right here," said Nada, pointing her pencil at the top of a clump of earth. "We won't be able to get fingerprints, but it's a start… Then, I can see traces of mud here… and here, but the ground is fairly dry everywhere else… In addition, it contains some kind of… [She picked up a brownish mass with her pencil.] … smelly 'vegetation' that doesn't match the biotope at all. This type of sediment is more commonly seen in coastal areas."

"Hm…" nodded Fox as she spoke.

"Same thing with this moss, usually found near waterways…These traces seem to come out of the hole and head toward [She turned progressively toward the portal.]… this Zaap."

"Or the opposite."

"What?"

"Well, maybe 'it' came from the Zaap and then went into the hole," suggested Mystheur.

"Are you suggesting we're dealing with a Drheller, Mystheur?"

"You're forgetting the hand print."

"A… 'Were-Drheller'?"

"Aaaah… You make me happy, Skelet. [He continued in a dreamy tone.] Really. Unfortunately, that doesn't line up with what SHE says," he said, pointing to a young Eniripsa curled up at the base of a tree.

"Maybe we should have started there…"

"Yes, but I wouldn't have had the joy of hearing you say 'Were-Drheller'," said the Xelor with jubilation as he bit down on another sunflower seed.

*****

Agent Skelet went over to the young girl. She seemed to be in shock: she was frowning and her small wings were all wrinkled. In addition, her eye was shining. The other was hidden behind a white eye patch with a red cross sewn onto it.

"Miss?"

"Elly! Elly Verdrai," sad Fax as he stepped over.

"Hello, Miss Verdrai, can you tell me what exactly you saw?"

"First of all…" she began, turning to Mystheur, "I didn't see any Were-Drheller, or any Enutrof crossed with some kind of hairy critter that digs underground tunnels!"

Behind Skelet, the Xelor was gesturing at the Eniripsa to keep quiet, but when Nada turned around, he rapidly changed gestures to spin his index finger near his temple.

"Are you suggesting that I'm crazy? I saw that, you know!"

"But nooo… We use this gesture often at the FBA… It means we're on to something… something big! Really big…"

"Mystheur."

"Okay, okay."

Fax stepped aside to eat his sunflower seeds.

"Agent Skelet, Office of Frankly Bizarre Affairs."

The two women shook hands.

"Tell me what you saw, Elly."

"I was just walking along, whistling… a joyful but terrifying tune I've had stuck in my head for days… Listen!"

She stood up and whistled the tune.

"Indeed."

"When suddenly… I saw a hand break through the ground in a shower of dirt! Then another… Then a hairy head appeared… and so on until I saw the body of a woman…"

"… coming out of the ground?"

"Exactly. At first, I thought she was a Sadida… recovering… They do strange things in nature sometimes… But then I noticed that she was half woman, half… plant or mineral, I couldn't say which. She started advancing… I wouldn't say walking because I didn't see any feet, just some kind of moss… that made a disgusting noise when she moved. She reminded me of those creatures that appeared a while back… you know the ones? They look as dead as they do alive…"

"Enutrofs?"

"A little less stingy and a little more dead…"

"Oh! Of course! The Veriun Dead?"

"Yep! Anyway, she looked like she was in bad shape. So I offered to help… I didn't mean any harm… And that's when she stared at me with… empty… eyes, literally! Then she said… hm hm… [imitating a raspy, ghost-like voice] 'Agony doesn't need anyone, especially not a little girl playing healer. Go back to your dolls! The sad irony is that agony is the burden Agony must now bear…'"

"Hm… I wonder if there's some hidden meaning there…"

"Unbelievable, the gall of that old thing! It's the straw that broke…"

"… the Dragoturkey's back?"

The Eniripsa stared at the Sram.

"I'm sorry, I think my colleague is a bad influence on me…"

"Skelet! Come see this!"

"Speak of the Boowolf… I'll be right back!"

*****

Sitting in front of the Zaap, Mystheur had opened one of this notebooks.

"I pulled up this file while you were gossiping with your friend…"

"While I was gossiping with my…"

"Shush! Read this…"

Fax held out the file:

First Name: Agony
Last Name: Unknown
Class: Unknown
Profession: Powerful Necromancer
Hobbies: Pottery; creating livid hearts/death; bringing the dead back to life.
Identifying Characteristics: Said to be the mother of Raval, protector of the month of Septangel.

Key Dates:

  • Agony is rumored to have created livid hearts and given some of them to her son, Raval (date uncertain…).
  • In 647, when the tower on Petrified Hoarse Heath was attacked by the gods, Agony disappeared with a livid heart. Result: The tower fell and Agony and the "air" livid heart… vanished.
  • Raval used his mommy's livid hearts to bring Solar (former guardian of the month of Javian) and Bethel Akarna (an Osamodas sorcerer) back to life (oh, and, he also rose an army of Veriun Dead along the way). Result: The gods granted their disciples new powers to fight Ravel's Veriun Dead army.

"Hm… Interesting, but we really don't know much about this Agony…" concluded Nada.

"No, but we're making progress."

"Really?"

"Didn't you notice, Skelet? Of all three cases, this is the first one where we've got more than a simple 'vision'… [pointing to the gaping hold in the ground] This time, we've got tangible proof… and that… Ha ha… that's going to make Renniks happy…"

The temporis server closed its doors last week and it's now time to send the rewards, the ceremonial items bought, the Dungeon Rusher shields and the XP Potion.

Starting tomorrow, players will receive those elements, but we will only inject one type of item at the time. What does it mean? It's very simple: if for instance you're waiting for your Temporis rewards, your XP potion and a Dungeon Rusher shield, you won't have the three of them together but each one on its time. Do not worry! In the end you will all receive what's due ^^ but it may take several days.

There's also some of you who told us you didn't make your final choice on the rewards. In order to please you all on this point, we will send you the rewards on their original skin (Insectoid), but there will be an NPC (near Amakna's Castle Zaap, on [3,-5]), who will allow you to change the rewards so each one can get the skin he like the most.

The investigation was spinning its wheels for Fax Mystheur and Nada Skelet. Even though they'd made the connection between three frankly bizarre affairs near Zaaps, they were horribly short on clues. Doubt was slowly settling in – what if the temporal anomalies stopped appearing?

Nada Skelet was riding a fiery Dragoturkey wearing a dark harness bearing a ghost, the seal of the Office of Frankly Bizarre Affairs. She was splitting the wind in Sufokia Bay at impressive speed. Under the coastal sun, her long red hair flowed out from under her helmet streaking behind her in her wild race. Dust rose up wherever she rode, so much so she could be seen crossing the landscape from kilokameters away. She slowed down as she neared the local Zaap. A Xelor dressed head to toe in gray was waiting for her there.

"I have news, Mystheur," she announced as she got down off her mount.

"Me too, Skelet."

"Several witnesses saw an old man lurking near Zaaps," she began as she tied her mount to a post. "Always the same description: a white beard, owl headgear, bandages on his forearms. No one could tell what god he follows, but several spoke to him. They didn't understand what he wanted, but he gave his name as Wahn Jolsh," she said and handed her partner a head-to-toe portrait of the individual.

"Hm… looks like a Enutrof, doesn't he?"

"You're just saying that because he's old and his feathered headgear makes him look senile."

"Not entirely false."

"Everyone who talked to him said that he was sad and a real downer."

"Hm…"

"What about you? What's new?" asked Nada.

"Oh! You'll never guess who I ran into on my way here… Gertroud! My occult science teacher from primordial school! I haven't seen her for what… seven years? Yes, I think it was at my godson's school fair…"

"… I mean about the case, Mystheur."

"Oh, right. Follow me!"

Fax led Nada over to the teleportation portal. The Zaap was covered with hand-written inscriptions that Skelet read out loud:

"FO NOIPMAHC… LOMICREP… ARUHTAD… YNOGA… SUTCIROEL… and HTILUJ… An ancient language?"

"Nope!"

"A code?"

"Closer…"

"I've got it!"

"Already? It took me all morning…"

"You just have to read it backwards!"

"Like in a mirror," added Mystheur with a mysterious look.

"JULITH… LEORICTUS… AGONY… DATHURA… PERCIMOL… and the… CHAMPION OF… Hmm… It looks like our mysterious scribe was interrupted…"

"Did you see the order those names are in?"

"The same order as the apparitions. Or the ones we know about at least."

"The ones that have happened, Skelet. And the ones that… haven't happened YET."

Sufokia Bay

Near the Zaap, the following day…

6:58 a.m.

Lying on the ground dressed in camouflage, balaclavas on their heads and paint on their faces, Mystheur and Skelet were watching the portal in the distance through their telescopic goggles.

"Ridiculous!" whispered Nada.

"What is?"

"We are, Mystheur!"

"Speak for yourself, Nada. I look like a secret agent!"

"You look like an idiot, Mystheur. And even though we've got the chronology for the next apparitions, what makes you say the next one is going to happen here?"

"Nothing, Nada. But we can't watch all the Zaaps. I've got a hunch that it's going to be in Sufokia. If we look at the order the apparitions happened on a map, there's a certain logic. This portal follows the others. Plus, it's the one that was vandalized… our biggest clue. Renniks is watching the one on the Sufokian shoreline. And he's detailed another agent to guard the one in the Alliance Temple."

"And why now?"

"The apparitions have been seen shortly before dawn or a little after dusk. When you're on a stake out, you never know who's going to show up or when… Come on, Skelet! It's fun! And thrilling to be in the field!"

"In the field, yes. On the field, not so much!"

"It's been five minutes… Go on, tell me what you turned up…"

"Hm… The analysis of the writing showed that it was done yesterday morning, between 6:30 and 7:30, by someone left handed…"

"That can't be random," said Mystheur in a mysterious voice.

"The colored material was standard paint: pigment, solvent, thickeners… But it also contained an unknown ingredient…"

"You mean something 'extratwelvian'?"

"No, Mystheur. It could easily come from our planet but just hasn't been discovered yet…"

"Yet…"

"What did you turn up?"

"I didn't find anything about Percimol or any 'champion' of… anything. But I've got something on Dathura."

The Xelor pulled out a piece of paper folded in four that looked like it'd been torn out of a book.

"Where did you find that?"

"At the city library."

"Mystheur! You… you vandal, you!"

"You can't make an omelet without breaking a few Dofus…"

"That's no excuse…"

"Dathura was the tenth and last doll created by the god Sadida to seduce the Primordial Dragons. She was the apex of his work, very nearly perfect. She looked most human, along with the ninth doll, Lacrima. Lacrima grew progressively more and more jealous of her younger sister who she thought had stolen her place as Sadida's favorite. She was so jealous, she eventually cast Dathura down into our world, the mortal world.

As she fell, something horrible happened – the doll's ogrine heart was pierced…"

Incredulous, Nada gave the piece of paper back to Fax.

"That's not much help… A children's tale…"

"There's often a grain of truth in fairy tales, Skelet. You should know that… Didn't they teach you that in Psychology 101?"

"Yes, but we rely above all on how people who really existed behave."

"Who says she never really existed? Plus, I know the rest of this story. It's gossiped about every night in specialized inns where pimply young adventurers gather to play with cards and wooden figurines…"

"And how do you know about those kinds of places?"

"I love those kinds of places! But that's a different story… The story we're interested in now talks about an alchemist who supposedly found an inanimate doll – right here, in the World of Twelve – and spent years trying to wake her up."

"And did he ever figure out how to do it?"

"Him, no. But it's said that not so long ago, one of his creations, or rather one of his creatures, made of ogrine as well, managed it."

"By kissing her while she slept, I assume?"

"I don't know about that… But if the story is more than just a story, it means that not only does Dathura exist, but she could still be part of our world!"

"Wow! You're so…"

"Insightful?"

"Gullible! It makes me want to cry…"

"ME TOO!" said a strange voice in the dark suddenly.

Mystheur and Skelet turned around, gripped with fear…

The Avenger from Another Time

Mystheur and Skelet's investigation had taken them to the Sufokia Bay Zaap on the trail of Dathura. Their stakeout had just barely begun when something unexpected took them by surprise… What if the temporal anomalies were just the Treechnids hiding the forest?

Sufokia Bay

Near the Zaap

7:02 a.m.

Sitting cross-legged in the dark on his embankment, the individual had been watching them for some time. The two agents from the Office of Frankly Bizarre Affairs had arrived on tiptoe wearing ludicrous – but effective – camouflage outfits. The problem was that they couldn't see anything and were tripping over everything. An F for discretion! And for observation, too, because they hadn't even suspected the individual's presence for a second, bickering like two retired adventurers. Other than that, well… he had to admit that all kitted out with their balaclavas, face paint, and telescopic googles, Mystheur and Skelet looked like real secret agents!

"… But if the story is more than just a story, it means that not only does Dathura exist, but she could still be part of our world!"

"Wow! You're so…"

"Insightful?"

"Gullible! It makes me want to cry…"

That's where we left off... and where Wahn Jolsh had decided to make his presence known:

"ME TOO!"

Mystheur and Skelet turned around, gripped with fear. Nada immediately pointed her dagger in the direction of the individual looking down at them:

"Who's there?"

"Of course he's got a crush on you…" said the scratchy voice in the dark. "He was almost named after the animal, and your hair is almost the same color as the animal…"

"You're Wahn Jolsh, aren't you?" asked Fax, as if he already knew the answer.

"At this very moment, yes."

Dawn was rising and the sun's first rays lit up the shape in the dark, revealing an old man with haggard features but who still looked fairly sturdy. He was wearing bandages on his forearms and a feathered headgear with a beak topped with two large eyes. Like an owl.

"You're going to have to come with us, sir…" said Nada, but she was interrupted by her colleague who had just put his hand on hers to make her lower her weapon.

"Do you know who we are?" continued the Xelor.

"I noticed you, yes. We've been crossing paths lately. You seem very nice and…" (He seemed to stifle a sob.) "I feel so alone! I'm invisible to everyone… even you… you didn't even see me when you got here!" complained the bearded individual who then started sobbing like a child.

An embarrassed silence took root. But the Sram wasn't going to leave it at that without saying something:

"You'll have to come with us, sir…"

"Skelet, wait…"

"Why do you want to take me away? Isn't it nice here?" asked the old man who seemed to have calmed down. "You'll have to excuse me, I've been traveling alone for so long… I've been having episodes of severe melancholy more and more often. It's over now!"

"Are you the one wrote that?" asked Fax, pointing to the Zaap.

"Yes."

"You know that that's a serious offense?" said Nada.

"Serious, serious... Balderdash, I say!"

"What… did he just say?" asked the Sram in surprise, raising her dagger again. "What does that mean? What horrible language is he speaking?"

"'Horrible,' you say… well, I never!"

"'Balderdash', is that a spell? Is that it? Are you trying to kill me?"

"Skelet… you seem a little… tense. Why don't you let me question him?"

"Fine, Mystheur, but as soon as you're done with him, I'm throwing him on the back of my Dragoturkey."

"Okay…" agreed Mystheur as he turned toward this new star witness. "What can you tell us about the names you wrote? Why did you write them backwards?"

"What can I say? Haha… At this very moment that I'm talking to you, adventurers went through the mirror and the Scarecrow is hitting them with his hammer… At this very moment! Don't you see the irony?"

"Excuse me, Wahn, but no, I don't see…"

"How is that possible? When the Scarecrow, the Masked Avenger, the Puddly-who-wasn't-scared first hit a Taur with his hammer… in the early 800s! In more than 150 years!"

"I… I don't follow, I…"

"And even then, I'm talking about Cerpolet, the first Scarecrow! This was Percimol, who was so brave for a Puddly that a statue was built in his honor in 865! Isn't that something? In more than 200 years!!! Oh, I… Oh, my… I'm dizzy… Hold me in your arms, Fax! I feel so vulnerable…"

The old owl jumped down off his perch and into the Xelor's arms who, even if he'd wanted to keep up appearances by staying polite, was suddenly overtaken by uncontrollable sweating. The Sram couldn't help but snicker… and that didn't happen very often!

"There, there… get a hold of yourself!"

"Oh, I'm sorry. You're right… You're too good for me… Where was I? Oh, right!"

Wahn Jolsh wiped his face on one forearm then on the other before sitting back down cross-legged. Fax felt obliged to do the same to get down to his level.

"I'm going to have to leave you soon, so ask me specific questions and I'll try not to get… off track," suggested the old man.

"You won't be going anywhere," Nada stated, while Mystheur gestured once again with his hand for her to take things down a notch.

"'JULITH… LEORICTUS… AGONY… DATHURA… PERCIMOL… and the… CHAMPION OF…' What does that mean?"

"First tell me what you think it means…" teased the vigorous old owl.

"Julith, Leorictus and Agony have dark pasts and are supposed to have died a very long time ago…"

"Yes…"

"Dathura is a character from a legend, and might not have really existed…"

"Try to see what she looks like in your records and what the most recent witnesses say she looks like."

"Very well," said Mystheur approvingly as he took notes. "Next, there's Percimol… I was stuck until now but… I get the feeling all your blathering on contains hidden clues…"

"I express myself most clearly! Only you're too busy making eyes at your colleague and I'm… I'm…"

Wahn was about to burst into tears again, but Mystheur grabbed him into a big hug just in the nick of time. He looked surprised:

"Mystheur, now really… Get a hold of yourself… You're starting to get a little clingy! Let's keep things strictly professional!" said the clearly unstable old man.

The Xelor moved back gently. The look on his face had changed and now contained a tinge of disbelief and annoyance. He even seemed somewhat… disappointed.

"Skelet!"

"Yep!"

"Cuff him."

The Sram rubbed her hands together. She walked the individual at dagger point to her Dragoturkey, hidden a little lower down in a thicket. Hands cuffed behind his back, the odd fellow stared at them.

"I doubt his testimony's worth much, but might as well keep him handy in a cell…"

"You're right, Skelet. I should have listened to you. Yet again…"

"Come on now, you always think about what the best thing to do is and sometimes… you're even right."

"My, my! That's a first, Nada. I'm honored that you admitted that… What? Have I got something on my face?"

The Sram seemed to be staring at him strangely. Fax was unsettled. She stepped forward slowly. He was rooted in place.

"That son of a…"

She took off running. Mystheur turned around and saw only the empty-eyed Dragoturkey. Old Wahn was gone. And there seemed to be strange hand-written inscriptions on the mount's saddle…
