Infinite Dreams: the plan is in action!

After several weeks of intense reflection, of tests, and several liters of coffee (yes we use metric system) and heated discussions, here are the modifications that we will deploy on official servers on Tuesday 26th of February (no postponement or twists and turns this time).

Infinite Dreams

The removal of the erosion and the decrease and standardization of monsters’ MP and range, currently available for testing on our BETA server, will be replicated to the official servers during the next maintenance.

We are keeping the price of bonuses as they are, as we are sincerely convinced that the purchase of those bonuses must be the result of the player’s choice. Choosing to purchase (or not to purchase) the bonus must be part of your strategy.

The work is not entirely done though on this feature, and as we said in a previous news, we are thinking about introducing additional improvements to this system (reward system overhaul, redesigning of the defeat and backup, implementing a starting pool, defining starting conditions of the fights (monster placement, in-fight challenges, for example), new rewards).

Runes

Thanks to your feedback, we were able to identify a few issues on the Transcendence Runes. We are currently working on those last problems and we hope to be able to bring those runes back in game as soon as possible.

Regarding Corruption Runes, we have to admit our defeat. We encountered a number of technical issues that kept us from getting the result we want for this rune.

No need to panic! Those of you who already have Corruption Runes in their inventory will soon be able to exchange them and get Dream Reflections automatically. No loss.

What about the rest?

We want to remind you that the class improvement project is ongoing, you can take part here.

The next update is currently being prepared and we want to keep its content a secret a little longer! Just to let you know, we are on schedule and we can’t wait to tell you more. :)

Dungeon Rusher #25: Protoz'orror

Health alert! The Frigost whale is a little under the weather. How about getting rid of those pesky pests rumbling about in its stomach? This brand new dungeon rusher will net you the Protoz'orror Shield – as long as you come out on top between Friday, March 1 (at 4:01 p.m.*) and Monday, March 4 (at 8:59 a.m.*)!

The Protoz'orror's not very nice but he certainly has his appeal! This boss infecting the heart room in the belly of the whale (Yes, you read that right! We're in a game, not anatomy class!) even tends to be a bit clingy. It's up to you to flush him out!

From Friday, March 1 (at 4:01 p.m.*) through Monday, March 4 (at 8:59 a.m.*), defeat Protoz'orror in his dungeon and win a Protoz'orror shield!

Reminder:

- The shield will be obtained directly from the boss.

- The boss must be killed in their dungeon; monsters killed in arenas don't count.

- Drops are limited to one shield per character, but the shield will be linked to the account.

The Enutrof and the Dragons

The legends of the Krosmoz are fairly clear on this point, even though there are always a few skeptics who ponder the mystery of origin: What came first – the dragon or the egg? But the origin of the new Mystery Box that just hit the shop is perfectly clear and without doubt. Settle in as we tell you the story.

Thwack! The sound, that sound, never lied. His shovel had just struck something, and that something could only be… His heart pounding, the Enutrof set down his tool and wiped his forehead. Then, he knelt down and finished digging by hand, gently. After a few minutes, Jonah Mond unearthed the hoped-for Dofus! "Meriana was telling the truth," he whispered.

Struggling to his feet, with a series of cracks that set a cloud of Piwis flying, Mond turned to the Feca watching him dubiously and brandished the Dofus in triumph.

"You see, Maclom, I told you so!" he spat through his beard.

"Listen, Mond…"

"No! You listen to me! I started this quest years ago to complete the most ambitious scientific project the World of Twelve has ever known! And there you have it, right under your nose – proof that I'm right!"

"Yes, but…"

"When I get the Primordial Dofus to hatch, I'll reunite the six dragons in a one-of-a-kind park like nothing else in this world! Do you hear me, Maclom? One of a kind! That has-been Charlie Endstown-Smisse can get stuffed. Compared to my park, Vulkania'll look like something out of Trool Fair!"

Given how excited the old Enutrof was, and how red his face was getting in contrast with his thick white beard and the few hairs left on his round head, Ain Maclom tried to calm things down. He started talking again in a soft, conciliatory tone.

"I hear you, Mond, but…"

"Speak up, I can't hear you!"

"What gets me, you see, is how long it took you to get your hands on this Dofus. At this rate, it'll take a dozen years at the very least to reunite them all. And, well, pardon me for saying it but… you're no spring chicken…"

Jonah Mond froze suddenly, his mouth gaping, as if dumbstruck. As the implications of what he'd just heard sunk in, his face narrowed and his entire body seemed to shrivel up. He sat down on the ground with a thud, thunderstruck. The Feca put a hand on his shoulder.

"I'm sorry, Mond. It was a wonderful plan, but replicating dragons…"

Mond's eyes blazed, and he jumped up.

"What did you say?!"

"Calm down, Mond. I didn't mean…"

"No, no! What did you say about dragons?"

"Err… I said something about replicating them, I think…"

"That's it! Of course. Maclom, you're a genius!"

As the Feca watched incredulously, Mond grabbed his haven bag and dug through it feverishly, pulling out various items that he tossed carelessly aside: a pickax, a safe, a kama minting machine (perfectly illegal), a coat rack, an umbrella (both of which previously belonged to a certain Mari Pumpkin), an anvil, an Esspeakewlair set (a souvenir from an obscure, distant empire), and… a strange animal that scurried off as fast as it could!

"Whatever was that?!" cried Maclom.

"A raccoon! Drat. It was a unique specimen… Apparently, it came from a region called Green Fields, but no one knows where that is… Ah! Here we go!"

The Enutrof waved a book in the air. To Ain Maclom's great surprise, a scantily clad Sram was splashed across the cover…

"Err… Oops, that's not it," grumbled Mond, diving diplomatically back into the depths of his bag. "That's not mine… I don't know where that came from… Never seen it before… Ah… Aaaah… Got it!"

Mond held up a battered issue of Krosmoz Today magazine. The headline enticingly read: "The Origin of Dragons – The Hidden Truth – Magus Ax Reveals All". He flipped through it quickly, until he found the page he wanted.

Excited, Maclom sputtered.

"Listen to this! 'Ever since Xelor's Clock'… bla bla bla… 'creation of the Dofus'… bla bla bla… 'created by a dragon'… Found it! Listen: 'replicas of these Dofus' – Do you hear that, Maclom? Replicas! – 'have also been created in the material plane'… bla bla bla… 'The exact number of replicas existing in the world is uncertain'… etc., etc. Do you understand what that means?"

"Wait… You can't be seri…"

"Replicas! I don't need the Primordial Dofus! I only need a few replicas! Yeah, sure, those Dofus are less powerful, but that doesn't matter! I'll have my dragons! And I'll be able to replicate them infinitely, and create as many groups of six as I want! And I can release them into the World of Twelve! Do you hear me, Maclom? They'll spread everywhere!"

"But, Mond, you can't mean it! You know that explanation is highly controversial. And Magus Ax himself has denied writing that text!"

"What are you going on about?"

"That's just one of many theories, and probably the least likely. Especially since a rag like Krosmoz Today published it…"

"You're such a bore, Maclom. There's no talking to you. Oh, never mind! Get along, now. I've got work to do!"

And, thus it was that Jonah Mond unknowingly laid the groundwork for what would later become… the Dragon Mystery Box!

Temporis: Server Merger!

$

This March 12, we are merging all the Temporis servers!

Three weeks before Temporis II closes its doors, we're going to merge all the Temporis servers into a single server that will be named "Temporis II".

With this merger, the free character transfer service won't be of any use anymore so it will be closed on March 5.

The rules will be the same as for all other server mergers we've done in the past. However, there could be a few name collisions.

Character Names:

  • Characters who are higher than level 50 will be given priority in keeping the nickname.
    • If two players have priority for the same nickname, then it will go to the character with the oldest creation date.
    • If no characters have priority for the same nickname, then it will go to the character with the oldest creation date.
  • We'll add an original server tag to the end of the other characters' nicknames. These characters will be able to change their nickname for free via a potion that will be provided (linked to the character for life). They won't have to change the nickname when logging in, and can change it whenever they like.

Guild Names:

  • The guild with the oldest creation date gets to keep its name.
  • A tag indicating their original server will be added to the end of the other guilds' names. They will be able to change their names for free using a potion given to the leaders (linked to the character for life).

Alliance Names:

  • The alliance with the oldest creation date gets to keep its name.
  • A tag indicating their original server will be added to the end of the other alliances' names. They will be able to change their names for free using a potion given to the leaders (linked to the character for life).

For alliance tags:

  • The alliance with the oldest creation date gets to keep its tag.
  • The other alliances will have a number added to the end of their tag. They will be able to change their tags for free using a potion given to the leaders (linked to the character for life).

We're performing this merger so that your gaming experience on the Temporis servers is as agreeable as possible to the very end and we sincerely hope you enjoy the event to the end.

Don't Dodge the Big Wave Emote!

Grab a group of adventurers, an annoyed Gobball, and a tub of donut batter. Stir well! You'll know why the Big Wave emote is on sale in the Shop until Sunday, March 10…

The World of Twelve is full of tall tales, the authenticity of which just can't be proven. But this one is, of course, 100% true! It happened during the Too-Faux Karnaval.

A small group of adventurers was on their way back from a tofuhouse, loaded up with eggs to make donuts, when suddenly an enraged Gobball charged at them. They all took off running – all but one, lost in thought as he nibbled on a donut. To warn him of the impending Gobball collision, his friends started waving their arms frantically. "Gobble, err, Gobball!" they yelled. At the last second, the donut nibbler narrowly avoided one disaster only to cause another. As he dodged the Gobball, he dropped his donut, tripped, and landed smack dab on it.

When his friends helped him up, his donut was hopelessly flat – flat as a pancake. As he gazed sadly down on it, a revolutionary idea popped into his head: "Hey, guys, what do you say we make pancakes for a change?"

The Big Wave emote was created in memory of that fateful day, and that's why pancakes are served at the Karnaval. (What isn't commonly known, however, is that a small faction on the Emote Naming Committee is still, to this very day, lobbying to change its name to the "Flat-as-a-Pancake Wave".)

You're in luck: The emote is on sale in the shop starting today. It'll be available until Sunday, March 10 (at 11:59 p.m. Paris time) for just €4,50!

#KTA: To Your Leagues!

$

Now that the opening tournament in the second Krosmoz Tournaments Arena season is winding up, it's time to get to the heart of the matter – the league tournaments!

An Innovative Tournament System

As we mentioned in an earlier post, KTA is evolving for season two with the arrival of leagues! The system is very simple and built around three leagues:

  • a Gold league, limited to 10 slots, containing the top teams;
  • a second, Silver league for the next 40 teams; and
  • finally, all the remaining teams are part of the Bronze league.
At the end of each season tournament, teams may change leagues based on their performance!

The teams that had the best performances in the placement tournament will be able to start the season in the Gold or Silver ranks. All the other teams will need to start out in Bronze and climb the ladder to become champions!

Level Tournaments Open to All

The first league tournament will be held from March 13 to March 21. A second will follow shortly afterwards, from March 25 to April 02.

The various competitions are accessible on the KTA website where you can see the dates and regulations. Important: The format is different depending on the league!

  • Bronze: rounds phase (set composition) + final phases (set composition)
  • Silver: rounds phase (set composition) + final phases (draft)
  • Gold: championship (draft)

Signing up is easy:

  • If you are currently participating in the Placement Tournament, you'll need to wait until after the last fights to be assigned a league. Then you can sign up for the corresponding tournament.
  • If you are new to KTA, you'll need to start by creating a KTA team (see here). Once you've done that, you can register for the Bronze tournament.

The KTA takes place on a tournament server, where all classes and items are available to you!

Tempted by the idea of joining in the adventure and competing for the €3,000 waiting for the winners at the end of the season? Don't wait. Registration for the first tournament closes on Monday, March 11 at 11:59 p.m. (Paris time)!

Update on Bug Fixes and Optimizations

$

Since the start of the year, we've had a lot of feedback and concerns from you about in-game performance and stability.

DOFUS will be celebrating its 15th birthday this year, and we've let problems build up that are now preventing you from taking advantage of a consistently satisfactory in-game experience.

Since the start of the year, the development team has been working to correct these problems, but since they are complex and potentially regressive, we couldn't bring the main changes online outside of a major update and without testing them for you in beta beforehand. Update 2.51 is therefore the opportunity to share these developments with you, and we're counting on you to give us as much feedback as possible before its release.

Here's a little overview of the bug fixes and technical improvements with the greatest impact that await you (the full list of bug fixes will be available in the version changelog, as usual).

Bug Fixes

  • Missiz Freezz: You were eagerly waiting for this bug fix, as this boss (snowdrift mechanic) hadn't been working as planned for several months now. We've rewritten her from the ground up so she'll recover her initial gameplay.
  • Spectator mode in the ISK: We've fixed two bugs that made it impossible to watch an ISK fight as a spectator (possibility of watching several different fights during the same session and access to spectator mode from the Kolossium map).
  • Distribution of monsters on maps: Monsters tended to build up in the top-left corner of maps, which will no longer be the case.
  • Previewing damage: Previewing spell damage was overhauled entirely during the previous update. A few problems persist, and we've fixed (among other things) the previews of Rogues' bombs, Xelors' movements, and trap areas of effect.

Game Client Performance

This is the big one in this update. The team worked on improving performance (consumption, RAM and CPU) and reducing memory leaks.
For this update, we focused our attention on the following:

  • Loading characters,
  • Loading interfaces,
  • Searching and sorting in marketplaces and the encyclopedia,
  • Displaying characters, monsters and auras,
  • And calculating movements on the map (outside of combat).

Simultaneously, an effort was made on the graphic and animation side to optimize certain elements that were too resource-hungry (monsters, emotes, FX and equipment).

During our tests, we noted improvements of between 15% and 40 % in memory consumption, depending on the actions performed.

These optimizations are being complemented by a reduction in loading times. As an example, when changing characters, entering the game takes two seconds, whereas it previously took 10 seconds.

This is just the beginning, and this effort will continue throughout the year.

So, What's Next?

Certain priority optimizations and bug fixes are not yet ready to be brought online and will continue throughout the year. Among our objectives, we will focus on:

  • Continuing with bug fixes on previewing damage,
  • Continuing optimizing performance, especially in terms of displaying characters and animations,
  • And continuing optimizing graphical elements.

Other bug fixes are in the works and will arrive quicker, but won't necessarily be linked to a major update:

  • Bug fixes relating to unlocking shields and displaying the KE,
  • Reactivating transcendence runes,
  • And bug fixes for mount and petsmount emotes.

We're always mindful of your feedback! We can't always immediately answer your questions about in-game bugs and developments. We've decided to make major efforts in terms of how we manage our communication about the game, and this implies not making false promises that might disappoint you. Therefore, we only communicate once we're certain we can provide you with a reliable answer.

However, we encourage you to stay active and continue to report any bugs and issues you encounter in the game, so that we can continue to work on improving your experience in DOFUS, day in day out!

Kolossium Leagues: To Reset the Ratings or Not?

$
0
0
As we're mindful of the many discussions we've read about this topic on our forums, we'd like to hear the views of the community.

Previously, when launching a new Kolossium season, all players' ratings were kept. This made the rankings somewhat rigid, causing problems for some of you – and to be honest, for us too.

According to the discussions we've read about this topic on many forum threads, many people think it makes it possible to find more opponents and to reduce the waiting time between fights.

However, you have to keep in mind that, although placement fights partly resolve the level imbalance that may exist between two players, many fights are necessary to reach a stabilized rating.

In order to check with you that a total reset of Kolossium ratings for each new season meets your expectations, we'd like you to give your view by commenting on the thread below.

As soon as the bamboo milk starts flowing and the green starts growing, they can't help themselves: Leprechauns come running! But there's no way Twelvians are going to let them spoil the Pandawa festival from March 14 through 21! So, they're going to flush them out wherever they're hiding: in Astrub, in the Low Crackler Mountain, and in the Bwork and Goblin Camps (which says a lot about their relationship skills…). And there's always one or two Clover Fairyworks to win!

The in-game shop is even getting in on the occasion: for those eight days, it's offering the Saint Potrick haven bag! Until Thursday, March 21 (11:59 p.m. Paris time), the haven bag will be available for €4 or 3,500 OG!

And so it isn't left out, the online Ankama Shop is ready to shower you with gifts! From March 14 through 17, not only will it give you a Maskemane or Remington figurine* with every purchase (selected randomly), but it'll throw in more gifts that increase based on your purchase amount:

Anakronik Anomalies in Subscriptions!

His detractors claim that Xelor overdid it with the bamboo milk and that he was about to play with time to tease adventurers. That's not the case! On the contrary, he's going to need their help: To answer his call, you'd better be well equipped! The new subscription packs are here for that very purpose!

Starting with the next update (2.51), time and space will produce both strange and unexpected cocktails: temporal anomalies. Lo and behold, characters from other places and times will be showing up (and showing people up…) where they don't belong! And then your bearings will be very close to disappearing!

Xelor, who takes a dim view of all this, will need you! To lend him a helping hand, you must be able to resist these infernal distortions both mentally and physically! Your best weapon? The Anakronik set! You'll find it in the new subscription packs, available now in the store.

  • 1 month: 1 item from the Anakronik set (of your choosing)
  • 3 months: 1 Anakronik set (full - hat, cloak, and shield)
  • 6 months: 1 Anakronik set (full) + 1 Anakronik dragoturkey harness
  • 1 year: 1 Anakronik set (full) + 1 Anakronik dragoturkey harness + 1 Anakronik emote

Class Improvements: The Work Continues

$
0
0
We're continuing our study of the changes to be made to the DOFUS classes; we'll present the results of the previous survey and talk to you about the next steps.

The first survey on the roles perceived and desired for each class is now closed. We can now present a general feeling and a few keys results below. You can also find explanations, class by class, in their respective forum topics.

We were impressed by the number of participants (over 20,000), despite the length and laboriousness of the survey we gave you, so we'd like to thank you. We're taking into account the feedback you gave us on how we ask you for your opinion, and we're already thinking about ways to improve this.

There's Nothing Automatic About Nerfing

You'll be able to see for yourself – some classes really do diverge between what you think their roles should be and what they actually are. And we know you'll be all "go nerf that thing". Easy amigo – it's not that simple. There's just one thing to keep in mind: There are many solutions for any given situation, and nerfing and upping are not the only weapons in our arsenal.

Besides, this is only the first step in our process, and that'd spoil all the fun.

We'd also like to remind you of the scope of the actions relating to this project: We'll mainly be acting on the gameplay management and values of certain classes, not a complete overhaul or change of central mechanics.

How to Read the Accompanying Table

Rather than presenting you with the results by class, which is only of limited interest, we'd prefer to show you how you feel the classes should interact with each other.

By role, this is the ranking of the effectiveness of one class compared to the others.

You can find the perspectives, class by class, in the topics below:

Second Step: The Elemental Paths

You can now take the surveys below and tell us your choice about the elemental paths of each class.

You are, of course, not required to provide responses for all classes – if you feel you don't have the knowledge required to respond for one or more classes, then you can skip them without any trouble. However, feel free to fill the survey as many times as you need.

Take the Survey

We also observed that a number of you expected these improvements to be incorporated into Update 2.51. As we told you, we want to take the time necessary to complete this project properly, with a logical BETA phase. We'd rather let you know right now: We're aiming to put the changes into production for Update 2.52.

We'll see you soon for step three, which will concern spells!

The Case of the Butcher of Brakmar

When the boundaries of what is real become blurred, when there's something strange in your neighborhood, or when unexplained glimmers seize the Zaaps, who you gonna call? Fax Mystheur and Nada Skelet, our two agents from the Office of Frankly Bizarre Affairs! And what could be more bizarre than… temporal anomalies?

A feline shadow appeared in the blurred glass of the door. After knocking, she entered with a creaking noise, without waiting for a reply.

"Mystheur?"

A red-haired Sram moved forward in a poorly lit office where the rare high windows suggested the room was in a basement. A ray of light drew the attention of Nada Skelet to a poster; "I BELIEVE!" was written in capitals on the blurry drawing of Father Kwismas, walking through the woods with an outstretched hand, as if he were protecting himself from a blinding light.

"This drawing was made with charcoal a few weeks ago by an Enutrof named Bybo Bahr," Fax Mystheur asserted proudly, who got up suddenly from under his desk, full of conviction, but with his hat on crooked. "He was coming home from the nightclub… you know? That club they join if they're too busy in the daytime to join dayclubs? Anyhow! The creature was staggering through the woods when an old man startled him. He took some paper and charcoal out of his pocket to draw wi…"

"It's a fake, Mystheur. Even my grandmother could see that."

"A 'fake'?"

"Yes, a fake – not worth a dime!"

"Oh, a 'fake'… Well I believe it's real!"

"I know," she sighed, showing the poster. "It's marked on it… But I don't want to start another interminable discussion with you. What's going on? You left me a message to come here as quickly as I could because… (she forms quotation marks with her fingers and her voice changes) 'this time, I'm telling you, it's real, Skelet…'"

The Xelor showed no emotion in response to this mediocre imitation. He took off his hat, reshaping it properly and adjusting it, before taking a new illustration out of his drawer. With a wave, he slid it across the desk toward Skelet, who caught it and gazed at it. It depicted a hooded Huppermage in a crimson cape. Her strong, profound gaze seemed to tell a tale…

"Julith!"

"That's right, Skelet. 'The Butcher of Brakmar.'"

"But why are you showing me this drawing?"

"It's a facial composite I was given this morning. Let me give you the rundown: Last night, at 10:57, Nett Werkfolt collapsed in the vicinity of the Brakmar Zaap. The Masqueraider fell to his knees and got the impression that in the blink of an eye, he was taken to a place that looked like Brakmar, but without being Brakmar. He recognized the purplish ground, the spiked buildings, but there was something strange. The place seemed deserted, everything seemed dead, as if time had stopped. He raised his head. That's when she appeared, compelling – her gaze weighed very heavily on Nett. He was unable to move. Julith seemed at home, in a world where she reigned master over all. Until that… unsettling… moment… that I can't analyze…"

"Which one?" the Sram asked, seeming captivated at last.

"Well… Nett told me that Julith was startled by a squirrel."

"What!?"

"It was scampering after an acorn."

"…"

"She tried to char him in one move, according to Nett, but the brute apparently survived and fled… I don't know if this has any meaning, if it's an interpretation by the brain – maybe a kind of defense mechanism against an extremely scary situation – or a purely symbolic vision… Anyway, Nett Werkfolt woke up 56 minutes later in the same place and guess what?… His watch had stopped at 10:57! Isn't that incredible?"

"And how did he know that 56 minutes had elapsed?"

"I don't know; he must have asked a passerby."

"Or a squirrel…" she murmured.

"Come again?"

"Oh, nothing… So where's the acorn in all that?" the Sram said sarcastically.

"Not a trace…" Mystheur replied mysteriously rather literally.

"It was a joke, Fax! I don't care about the acorn or the squirrel! You were telling me about a Masqueraider who had a fainting spell and… a woman who died over 200 years ago!"

"Oh! I immediately thought of a spirit too! But Nett Werkfolt looked at me weirdly when I asked him if he'd tried putting his arm through her… Never mind. If you want further clarification, here's a very-much-complete file I wrote about our beloved witch…"

He slid a folder across the desk and Nada read the first page:

First Name: Julith
Last Name: Abigor
Class: Huppermage
Profession: Witch, butcher, guardian of the Ebony Dofus, organizer of dramatic events
Hobbies: Knitting and necromancy

Key Dates:

  • In the middle of the 80s (380!), Julith became a Huppermage at the end of her training alongside Jahash Jurgen.
  • At the end of the 80s, having earned her witch's certificate and diploma as guardian of the Ebony Dofus, she tried to destroy Bonta. But Jahash, now guardian of the Ivory Dofus and protector of the city of Bonta, wasn't too eager – destruction could project an image of his city that was hardly positive.
  • Their combat is said to have lasted 68 days, until on the 69th day, a turn of events (huhu…) brought things to a close – they fell in love.
  • A son was born of this union: Joris Jurgen, in the year 390 (info to be verified – there are inconsistencies regarding his age… he's apparently still alive!).
  • That same year, Jahash sacrificed himself to save Bonta. The circumstances of this disappearance are unclear, but Julith seemingly made a huge blunder.
  • So, still in 390, Kerub Crepin took Joris in (it should be noted that the same inconsistencies as for Joris apply to this Ecaflip…).
  • In the year 400, the renowned witch with the off-putting name of the "Butcher of Brakmar" made a resounding comeback, but the circumstances and consequences of this return are even more unclear than the last time…

"Actually, that does look very complete to me…" Nada nodded.

"Thanks! At the end, you'll find Nett Werkfolt's full statement. He's the one who made the facial composite…"

"We're incredibly lucky that all the witnesses know how to draw so well…"

"Yes, I think so too!" Fax replied with true enthusiasm, not noticing his colleague's sarcasm as she rolled her eyes. "Right, to work!"
